Told you I was useless at the tech stuff. Was just about to write an (un)witty comment but then thought "how does that actually work".

Can someone explain to me briefly the deal with oil in engines?
Not that I'd want to, but why couldn't you use veg/sunflpwer/peanut or just any old oil in a bike?

Don't laugh, but to someone who's never had it explained properly, I'll consider myself in the know after someone has explained it to me.

I use 10w 40 semi synthetic, from my local mororspares.
Any brand, it doesn't matter, so long as it meets spec.

Just make sure it meets SF or SG spec or greater.. H, I, J etc.

The Suzuki handbook states "Use a premium quality, 4 stroke motor oil"

Don't fall for the "Motor Bike Oils are different to Car oils" rubbish.
If there was a difference, it would say so in the Owners manual.

For the price of it at the motor spares, I change it every couple of thousand miles.
A 1200 takes 3300ml, so a gallon of engine oil is good for 2 changes and a few topups.
